After a hot and busy Summer the start of unofficial ‘knitting season’ can come as a shock. With an onslaught of new Fall pattern releases (that just beg to be cast on) and a list of gift knits a mile long, it’s hard to know where to begin. To help ease the transition, consider joining one of these 6 Fall KALs to get your needles clicking.
The perks of a knit-along are many: most of the decision making is done for you (the pattern and tools are already decided and there’s probably someone out there selling a kit), there’s a schedule to keep you on track, and there are plenty of fellow knitters cheering you on. Plus, the joys of completing a project might be just what you need to dive back into your typical knitting fervor.
Here are our KAL picks for Fall, but you can always search our KAL calendar (or should we say KALender?!) to see more stitch along events.
Stonecrop KAL with Magpie Fibers
September 2, 2019 – November 2, 2019
Kicking off on September 2nd, cast on Andrea Mowry’s “Stonecrop Pullover” or “Stonecrop Cardi” in Magpie Fiber’s Domestic Fingering. Knit along through November 2nd, but be inspired to finish your sweater to wear to NY Sheep + Wool Festival (Rhinebeck). There will be a ‘Meet Up on the Hill’ with Dami Hunter (Magpie Fibers), Rachel Price & Kate Burge (Spincycle Yarns) on Saturday, October 19th at 2:00 pm to show off your Stonecrops!
Sock Along With Crasy Sylvie
September 5, 2019 – October 3, 2019
Join Crasy™ Sylvie for a sock along starting on September 5th. Using Skacel’s wool-free Hikoo CoBaSi and a pair of addi FlexiFlips (Crasy Sylvie invented them!), knit a pair of textured lace socks that will be wearable all year long. While the pattern is not a mystery, the instructions will be in sections each week over 4-weeks. The first part of the instructions will be released on September 5th.
Gnome You Didn’t MKAL
September 7, 2019 – October 6, 2019
Imagined Landscapes is hosting another Gnome MKAL, this time featuring Gnellie, a gnome who enjoys indoor activities. Kicking off on September 7th, the month-long knit along will release clues over a months time, revealing a new friend to add to your collection of gnomes. (Don’t have a collection? Check out Imagined Landscapes’ other gnomes here.) In the meantime, roundup your materials – you’ll need small amounts of 4 colors of fingering weight yarn – and a few sizes of needles.
West Knits MKAL
October 4, 2019
The 10th annual West Knits MKAL kicks off on October 4th with a project that promises to be bold and graphic. Hints surrounding the project, including project kits from Stephen & Penelope will drop September 1st to give knitters time to plan, choose colors, and swatch.
“Audition” MKAL with Knit Purl Hunter
October 10 – October 31
Join Michelle Hunter for her last scheduled KAL before heading out on an indefinite sabbatical. The mystery shawl project will kick off on October 10th and deliver clues each week through October 31st. The asymmetrical shawl requires 456 yards of the main color and 234 yards of a contrasting color in either Simplicity Spray of Simplicity Tonal to work the four different stitch patterns featured. Video tutorials, help, and prizes will also be available!
