Match Made

Fiberly – a new platform to connect designers and test knitters  – launches this Friday, April 12th, but designers and interested test knitters can pre-register now. Designers seeking test knitters can create their account profiles now so that they can start posting jobs as soon as Friday, while pattern testers can use this pre-launch time to create the required gauge swatch test. Not a knitter? Crochet designers and testers also have a home on Fiberly.

Knitting Rocks

A first-of-its-kind knitting event is being held in Joensuu, Finland on July 11. The first ever Heavy Metal World Knitting Championships combines Finland’s love for heavy metal music (there are 50 heavy metal bands per 100,000 Finnish citizens) and needlework. To enter the competition, knitters are required to submit a video of them knitting along to the song Fight Or Die by Joensuu thrash metal band Maniac Abductor (free download available here). The 15 most engaging performances will be invited to the World Championships.

CAST ON: Misdirection by Carissa Browning

Misdirection is a quick-knit, two-color cowl that features plenty of trendy fade and classic texture.  With two fingering weight yarns held together, this easy-to-wear cowl is first knit flat from the bottom up and then joined and knit-in-the-round to create a seamless loop. Designer Carissa Browning gives pattern directions, as well as fade instructions, which happens through swapping one colored strand with another strategically throughout the design.
