BETTER TOGETHER

The new Solidarity Swap, birthed out of the recent Instagram conversations surrounding race, is accepting sign-ups for their Pattern and Yarn swaps through February 28th. An initiative started by a group seven impassioned knitters including @tyneswedish and @geordieknitss, the Solidarity Swap aims to celebrate the work of makers from underrepresented groups, especially BIPOC, and embrace diversity by connecting those who want to get to know each other. Once sign-ups are closed, the group moderators will pair people together and the two will swap yarn or patterns per the swap guidelines. With more than 500 knitters signed up to swap, we have a feeling this initiative is going to be a good one!

CAST ON: Breaking Plaid by Carissa Browning

We have a feeling plaid is about to have its fashion moment, which is why we’re excited to cast on Carissa Browning’s new Breaking Plaid cowl. With two contrasting colors of fingering weight yarn this bandana-style cowl combines double knitting and double-stranded (“marled”) garter stitch techniques to create a reversible plaid/gingham fabric. The pattern includes modifications notes for a loop cowl, a triangular shawl, a scarf, a washcloth, or a blanket, so there’s something for everyone in this pattern.
