BEST OF 2018

The team at Mason Dixon Knitting is gearing up for one of the most anticipated yarn sports of the year: March Mayhem. The basketball style tournament puts 64 user-submitted patterns up against one another until one pattern is voted through and named the champion. Now through January 20th, MDK is accepting 2018 pattern nominations in 4 categories – Yokes, Sweaters, Neck + Shoulder, and Mini Skeins. Anyone can nominate a pattern and everyone is encouraged to vote weekly once the tournament begins in March.

Knitting At the Estate

With a yarn line inspired by the theatre, it’s no surprise that Leading Men Fiber Arts has chosen a stage like the Allerton Park & Retreat Center in Monticello, Illinois for their first Knitting At The Estate (KATE) retreat. Happening September 19 – 22, the retreat will feature classes from Gale Zucker and Laura Linneman of TheKnitgirllls podcast, along with a market place, knitting time, and access to the Estate’s many outdoor sights and activities. Registration for the 75-person retreat is open from January 14 – 27 and guests will be chosen by a lottery system.

Escape to Norway with Regia sock yarn darlings Arne & Carlos who have released a new collection of their self-patterning Regia Design Line by ARNE & CARLOS. “Mountains and Fjords,” which is available now, features 6 colors inspired by the stunning scenery of Norway. Look closely and images of mountains and waves appear within the stitches.

Cast On: Athenaeum by Meaghan Schmaltz

Looking for a project to pair with your next audiobook? Cast on Anthenaeum by Meaghan Schmaltz of The Unapologetic Knitter. The cowl marries two yarns – a fingering weight and lace weight mohair – to knit an oversized ribbed pattern that resembles books on a shelf. Knit flat, this marled cowl will become a favorite piece to throw on for a trip to the library or museum. After all, Athenaeum is a name used in titles of books about literature, science, and art.
