But first, take Zoë Kravitz’s lead and crochet yourself something for tomorrow’s 4th of July picnic.

Christmas In July

With sky-high temps overwhelming our days, the Christmas holiday seems like a lifetime away. But December will be here before we know it and you’ll want to be prepared with a yarny advent calendar open on day 1. Now available for pre-order, Summit Rd Fibers has a limited number Advent Calendar collections available. Made up of 24 mini skeins and one full skein of their Deluxe Sock yarn, each skein will be a different, yet coordinating, colorway and be individually wrapped and labeled. Over the course of the month, open over 2,500 yards of sock yarn. Advent Calendars ship November 25th.

Splash Into Summer

You don’t need a pool to splash into Summer thanks to Nicki’s Homemade Crafts. “Splash Into Summer” is a roundup of 32 free, summer-inspired crochet patterns, each by a different designer. Each day during the month of July, a new pattern will be announced on the Nicki’s Homemade Crafts’ website and be available for free for 24-hours. You can discover the list of designers, which includes Marly Bird, Love Life Yarn, and The Lavender Chair, now, but you will have to check back daily to get a peek at the day’s featured pattern.

Ensata Knit Along

Designer Amy van de Laar is hosting a KAL through August 12th to celebrate her new hat, scarf, and cowl patterns featured in Brooklyn Tweed’s Wool People 13. The Ensata patterns are all knit with fingering weight yarn from Brooklyn Tweed and feature mesmerizing columns of texture and graphic curves that represent leaves of an orchid. Cast on with any yarn (though there’s a discount code available if you choose to knit with any of BT’s fingering weight yarns) and post pics and ask questions on the KAL forum hosted in the designer’s Ravelry group. Knit one or all of the pattern options with friends during this casual KAL that is happening now.

CAST ON: Montebello by Makenzie Alvarez

Summer is a great time to learn or master a skill, which is why we’re thrilled to see the latest design from Makenzie Alverez of Hanks and Needles. Montebello is a rectangular wrap that features whimsical cables that criss-cross atop of ribbing that flows over the entire 64″ accessory. Inspired by the swirling iron fencing that protects lush green gardens, this project aims to prove that there is beauty in unexpected places. Use 1500 yards of Aran weight yarn to knit this statement (and cozy!) accessory.
